What Your Auto Might Need
Your vehicle’s suspension is a collection of multiple parts that work in unison to support the weight of the auto, help you control/steer your car, and provide a reasonably comfortable ride. Although various types of suspension systems have differing configurations, general parts include wheels, axles, springs/coils, shocks/struts, linkages, and joints. If something goes wrong with any of these, your auto will need suspension repair. Several signs will point to the need to schedule a visit. One clue is a decrease in the quality of your ride. You may begin to feel more bumps as your car crosses uneven surfaces. Also, your auto bounces too long after it goes over a rough area. This is typically an indicator that the shocks or struts need replacing. They can wear over time or “bottom out,” sustaining damage from a severe jolt such as falling into an enormous hole or being involved in a crash. Another troublesome sign is pulling to one side. This could point to poor wheel alignment or another suspension problem. Likewise, new noises–particularly as you turn–can mean you need suspension repair. Other signs include uneven tire wear, sagging on one side, and front-end dipping during braking. Some vehicles are set up using an air suspension. Instead of shocks/struts, the auto is supported by inflated airbags. If one of the bags cracks due to age or becomes punctured from road debris, it leaks air. The suspension system’s compressor works harder and harder to keep up until it can no longer meet the need. If this happens to your air ride vehicle, we’ll need to make a repair.
